Summer Sunshine in Alaska

This summer Alaskans have been treated to a beautiful summer full of sunshine and hot weather. Outdoors in Alaska offers endless opportunities. Whether its hiking, boating, fishing, kayaking, or barbecuing in the backyard, Alaskans have been exposed to more sun this summer than the past years. Typically, we do not need to worry about sun damage because the weather is normally not this hot. Aveda has developed a brand new system that focuses on cleansing, protecting, and restoring damaged hair that is exposed to the hot sun. After using these three products, your hair will feel replenished and protected. So be sure to check out this new product line that has become an essential part of a healthy summer.

Products Galore!

Come on in and try our top rated products. You, the consumer has given these products 5 stars so they MUST work!

PETAL ESSENCE - FACE ACCENTS WITH BLENDING BRUSH.

"Love the colors and LOVE the brush. It is so easy to get a great blend that looks natural. I am looking at several other color combinatons to order. Generally I am not that comfortable with makeup and often tend to just "go without". But I wanted a more polished look for work so added this. This week, several people have made positive comments - not noticing makeup - just "you are looking great!"

HAND RELIEF - SOOTHES DRY, CHAPPED HANDS.

"This makes my hands feel smooth and not greasy at all. Bottomline this cream is awesome and can only be recommended. Don't worry about buying the small size cause you do not need much at a time and mine lasts forever! That fact and the quality of Aveda products make the prices justifiable."

FOOT RELIEF - SOFTENS AND SMOOTHS CALLUSES.

"The amazing Foot Relief product is the next best thing to a day at the spa -- in fact, it's better -- since you can add some luxury to your daily routine in the comfort of your own home! This rich cream is a sensory delight to my feet and works like magic to soften rough patches and smooth out calluses. The best part of this product, however, is the incredible tingle and relief it delivers to my tired feet after a long day. The feeling is delightful -- and a complete aromatherapy experience as well. This cream has a beautifully refreshing scent!
I highly recommend this product; it is heaven-scent!"

BRILLIANT EMOLLIENT FINISHING GLOSS - SMOOTHS ENDS ON COARSE HAIR.

"I have been using this product on my hair for the past 7 years, and I can't live without it! I have a very frizzy mane, and this gloss never fails to tame it, and keep it tame, for an entire outing. Love it, love it, love it!"

WITCH HAZEL HAIR SPRAY - LIGHT HOLD, REDUCES STATIC.

"I used this product for the first time today, and I was amazed. I have extremely fine, thin, long blonde hair, and I needed to put it up out of my face. Usually, when I have my hair in a ponytail, annoying little wisps grow out Medusa-like all around my head. Today, I sprayed a little bit of Witch Hazel Hair Spray onto the smooth part of my hair, and it held all day long while I sweated and moved boxes up and down stairs. Never did a hair stray. Amazing. No sticky heavy residue, either. A gold-star find!"

The sweet spot.

The days are longer, our energy is higher, and things are happening.  Having grown up on the east coast where summers meant long and lazy days; it’s most certainly a shift being in Anchorage where everyone scarfs up every last bit of dailylight in these days.

As life happens, change unfolds, and things are constantly moving – I’m realizing the extreme importance of feeling balanced and how to find it.  Here at the salon we have Chakra’s and as I’ve looked more into these I have found a greater root as to where balance can come from in the different aspects of our lives.

_______________________________________

“Chakras are spinning wheels of energy located along the spine, from the tailbone to the crown of the head. Ayurveda, (Aveda’s Philosophy) reconginzes seven main chakra energy centers, each emitting a different color and vibrating at a different frequency.

The chakra energy centers are junctions between consciousness (mind) and matter (body). They link the various aspects of what makes us human: our physical, energetic, emotional, mental, social and spiritual selves.

The state of each chakra has significant effects on one’s health. When chakra energy flows are blocked, one experiences diminished health.

When one focuses on the charkas, one can connect to any mental, emotional and physical imbalances occurring within the charkas.”

                       from the  Aveda Website. {www.aveda.com}

7 Chakras – all a different point in your body.

Chakra 1- is at the base of your trunk.  That’s where we are grounded and take care of our basic needs.

Chakra 2- is between your hips.  We move beyond our basic needs and into relationships with others.

Chakra 3- is between our lungs. This is the center of motivation. This is where we set our motivations and desires.

Chakra 4- is our heart. Here lies sympathy, empathy and love.

Chakra 5- is in our throat. Creativity, self expression, and communication can be found here.

Chakra 6 –  is in our brain.  This is the center of intuition, imagination, and perception.

Chakra 7 – is above our head.  This is where we connect with something greater than ourself, expressing wisdom, tapping into our spirituality.

_____________________________________________

Our main mission at Meg Allen Salon is to have everyone leave here feeling like they’ve never felt better; all 7 Chakras colorfully humming away.  Balanced, whole, beautiful, and just plain good.  We all have those people in our lives that we walk away from feeling like a million bucks, and we honestly just want to be a place like that for you.

So if you’re having an off day, if Chakra 6 is a little too far to the right and you can’t seem to get a hold of Chakra 3 – do what you need to do to get there.   If it means pulling out the Kitchen Aid and baking balance back in – than do it.  If it means driving around with your dog hanging out the window, totally jamming out to a Michelle Branch cd – do it.  If it means rolling out of bed and hitting play on a yogadownload podcast – do it.   We all deserve it – and we all know how good it feels to be there...To be in that sweet spot where things are how they were always intended to be.

AWAIC Summer Solstice Festival

We had a booth at the Summer Solstice Festival this past weekend. It was great to participate in the event that benefitted the AWAIC (Abused Women Aid in Crisis) center.
We were able to talk to a lot of people about the salon and sold a lot of jewelry, organic cotton scarves, and handmade bags.
Our boutique in the salon has made the commitment to only carry handmade items to support independent artists.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by to say hello! We had a great time.

Oceans Festival was a big success!

We had a great time at The Oceans Festival this past weekend. The morning started out a bit chilly, but as the festival started the sun broke through the clouds and stayed out ALL day.
There was non-stop live music all afternoon and evening. Bands like Full Sail, Rabbit Creek Ramblers, Last Train , Sweating Honey and Pimps of Joytime.

Our booth was right in the main walkway and directly across from the Moose's Tooth "beer garden" which made for some fun entertainment!
It was very exciting to see such a big crowd and enjoy being outside all day long!

The turnout was GREAT! We are all happy for a sunny summer. We deserve it after last year!

APRIL is EARTH MONTH

As most of you know April is Earth Month. Aveda is committed every month to the environment with their efforts to recycle, use sustainable ingredients and energy. One of the many reasons we love the product line is their promise to care for the world we live in. Aveda's mission statement is:

"Our mission at AVEDA is to care for the world we live in, from the products we make to the ways in which we give back to society. At AVEDA, we strive to set an example for environmental leadership and responsibility, not just in the world of beauty, but around the world."

Our team at Meg Allen Salon has decided to contribute our efforts to the Earth Month Fundraising by holding a cut-a-thon and open house on Monday April 27th, 2009 from 2-7pm.

We will be donating all of our profits from haircuts given this day to the Alaska Conservation Foundation. In addition to the service profits we will have a raffle for Aveda gift baskets and Aveda lavender candles, Tee-shirts and Totes will be sold to help raise money. The raffle tickets and other fund raising merchandise will be available in the salon ALL month as well as at the event.

Our goal is to raise $1000 that will go directly to Anchorage streams.

We would love your help and support in our efforts. Schedule your haircut during our Cut-a-Thon on the 27th, come in and score some great Aveda earth month merchandise, buy a raffle ticket (or ten) and help us give back to our community!!!

AVEDA Spring Trends

Our staff did some continuing education this weekend! We had two wonderful classes on Sunday and Monday, taught by Travis from Aveda.
We learned new cutting techniques on Sunday and color theories and applications on Monday.
I think the weekend left us all feeling refreshed and excited to get back behind the chair!

I noticed that a lot of the runway fashion for spring/summer is easily translated to hair do's. Aveda does a great job of keeping us, as stylists, updated and educated on current styles and trends.
