Our Earth Month Event:

APRIL is EARTH MONTH

As most of you know April is Earth Month. Aveda is committed every month to the environment with their efforts to recycle, use sustainable ingredients and energy. One of the many reasons we love the product line is their promise to care for the world we live in. Aveda's mission statement is:

"Our mission at AVEDA is to care for the world we live in, from the products we make to the ways in which we give back to society. At AVEDA, we strive to set an example for environmental leadership and responsibility, not just in the world of beauty, but around the world."

Our team at Meg Allen Salon has decided to contribute our efforts to the Earth Month Fundraising by holding a cut-a-thon and open house on Monday April 27th, 2009 from 2-7pm.

We will be donating all of our profits from haircuts given this day to the Alaska Conservation Foundation. In addition to the service profits we will have a raffle for Aveda gift baskets and Aveda lavender candles, Tee-shirts and Totes will be sold to help raise money. The raffle tickets and other fund raising merchandise will be available in the salon ALL month as well as at the event.

Our goal is to raise $1000 that will go directly to Anchorage streams.

We would love your help and support in our efforts. Schedule your haircut during our Cut-a-Thon on the 27th, come in and score some great Aveda earth month merchandise, buy a raffle ticket (or ten) and help us give back to our community!!!

AVEDA Spring Trends

Our staff did some continuing education this weekend! We had two wonderful classes on Sunday and Monday, taught by Travis from Aveda.
We learned new cutting techniques on Sunday and color theories and applications on Monday.
I think the weekend left us all feeling refreshed and excited to get back behind the chair!

I noticed that a lot of the runway fashion for spring/summer is easily translated to hair do's. Aveda does a great job of keeping us, as stylists, updated and educated on current styles and trends.

We are happy to announce that for the rest of March and ALL of April, we will have yummy cupcakes for sampling on Fridays and Saturdays!
The staff has all given their approval and great review of the yummy treats that Arika White of Cloud Nine Cupcakes brought in for us.

Happy New Year.

As of January 2ND we will have been open nine wonderful months. We have grown at an amazing speed and I couldn't be happier about our staff and all our guests!
We have grown to be a six stylist salon (including me), we have a fabulous full time esthetition and three front end support staff, who help make everything run smoothly.
This coming year holds some lofty goals which will hopefully include me taking home a paycheck! YAY!
My hiring goal was to have a big enough staff that our Holiday Party didn't SUCK, and I think we made it! We had a great time at the Snow Goose Restaurant and Brewery in downtown Anchorage.
One of my goals for the new year is to post more on the blog about the everyday drama and all the fun things that we are doing as a staff. We have a very talented team that works very well together. The blog will be a great place to help inspire each other and document some of our crazy/amazing/dramatic/busy/fun days as a team!

Open for business!!!!

We have now been open for 10 days and things are going great. We have had some wonderful support from friends, family and of course our great staff. Thanks so much to all the beautiful flowers and well wishes we received on opening day. The bouquets made the salon feel so warm. We are looking to add more hair stylists so if you know anyone who wants to work at the coolest salon in Anchorage please let me know!
